This is a field of late carrots we sow them up the middle of the butts so they can be covered with the soil from the wheel tracks this will help protect them from any frost we may get this coming winter. ( Picture taken 05 July) |

These carrots are an early variety, but they were sown at the beginning of April. This is to late in the season for covering them with plastic. So they have been covered with a grow cloth cover. It is like a very thin linen. One sheet covers about 3 quarters of an acre. ( Picture taken on 18 April.) |

The rows on each unit are 2 ins apart. The seed rate varies as the season goes on. For earlies less seed is sown. Which gives the carrots more room to grow so they will mature faster. As the season goes on seed is sown thicker has the carrot as more time to grow when we are not trying to get an early crop. You can see the blue carrot seed in the picture. Each seed is 1.4 ins apart ( Picture taken 13 April ) |
