Milling Wheat for Home Milling and Baking
The type of wheat we grow on the farm for milling is a spring wheat it is usually sown in March and harvested in September. Its shorter growing season gives lower yields per hectare and consequently a higher protein (gluten) content. This makes the Spring wheat varieties we grow at BROW FARM more suitable for bread flours, and with us not using any chemicals on the crop the shorter growing time makes for earlier weed control, less pest damage to the growing crop and so making it earlier for the crop to withstand disease.

Low imput Wheat Grains For Milling
Our Milling Wheat's were grown last year on the fertile farm land of West Lancashire. It is then pre-cleaned and if needed dried to a moisture content of 14%. Then it is stored in large bins. When the wheat is wanted it is put though a cleaner were the dust is removed and the wheat is sifted. The whole wheat grains are then packed in bags ready to be shipped.

Rye Grains For Milling
This Milling Rye is cleaned (dust removed) graded and packed in sacks. The Rye is not treated with any chemical when they are stored. It is dried with hot air.
